Bio-Fuel Programme Successfully Completed

RSN successfully completed the pilot projects by using bio-fuel (Jatropha Fuel) in various machinery during July-August 2009. The results of experiments show that the use of bio-fuel is more dependable, resource saving and efficient in our context. Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) provided financial assistance to implement this project.

The major objectives of the pilot project were generation of examples and successful implementation models of biofuels from Jatropha in pump, different vehicles and agro-processing mills; as a result of which, reducing import on the fossil fuels and developing the socio-economic condition of the country and its people. The specific objectives were:

1.  Success in operation of various mobile & stationary engines by using bio-fuel.

2.  Guideline on suitable blending proportion of bio-fuel with fossil fuel which will be helpful in future operation of various systems with their appropriate blending proportion.

3.  Success stories, examples, readymade procedures and protocols of activities and experiments conducted by using   bio-fuel.

4.  Feedback to improve the quality of the bio-fuel.Pilot Projects.

The pilot projects using bio-fuel have been conducted during July-August 2009. The project was mainly focused to demonstrate the use of biofuels from Jatropa in various engines and devices. The conduction of pilot projects was as follows:

1.  Power generation using Diesel generator set (Center for Energy Studies, Institute of Engineering (2066-04-11 To 2066-04-16)

2.  Vehicles (Tractor) NARC Agricultural Research Station(Agri-Implements) Ranighat Birgunj-14 (2066-04-30 To 2066-04-31)

3.  Water Pump NARC Agricultural Research Station(Agri-Implements) Ranighat Birgunj-14 (2066-04-32 To 2066-05-03)

4.  Agro-Processing Mill Jagarnathpur VDC Parsa 2066-05-04 To 2066-05-07 Jagarnathpur VDC Parsa

The experiments were conducted for B0, B20, B40, B50, B60, B80, and B100. Experiments have been successfully conducted and no mechanical system failure or engine damaged has been observed. These experiments showed that the efficiency of the engine is higher in the use of bio-fuel.

The pilot project was observed by professionals, engineers, academicians, students and journalists with great enthusiasm. The event and result was covered by national news papers and leading TV channels.
