Government and NGO Partnership for "Inter- Party Women's Network for Women Empowerment and Strategic Action Planning".
District Development Committee (DDC) Parsa and Renaissance Society Nepal (RSN)/Women's Democratic Network Central Committee (WDN-CC) have made formal agreement to implement "Inter-Party Women's Democratic Network for Women's Empowerment and Strategic Action Plan in Parsa District". The Project will be implemented in two phases. In first phase, the project will form women political leader's inter-party networks at district, municipality and constituency levels followed by capacity building. The assembly of district network, political leaders of different political parties, representatives of local government and civil society organization will develop a five year strategic action plan of each party aimed to increase meaningful participation, empowerment and inclusion of women both in political party and government bodies'.
In second phase, the district and constituency networks will form networks in all 82 VDCs, build their leadership capacity and involve them in advocacy to implement the strategic action plan. Similarly, they will create pressure to establish network desk in each VDC, municipality and DDC. The project will help women political leaders to work as key stakeholder in local development.
DDC has provided a total sum of NRs.1,67,000 to initiate the first phase activities of the project.

Book is Published

Women's Political Participation, Empowerment and Inclusions: Survey Report and Strategic Action Plan, 2009" Book is Published

Renaissance Society Nepal (RSN) implemented the project Women's Political Participation, Empowerment and Inclusion Project supporting by the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) for published the "Survey Report and Strategic Action Plan, 2009". The Project Period was on 15th November 2008 to, 15th February 2009 and this period was extended up to June 2009.
The Book was launched in Kathmandu by Honorable Ms. Bidya Devi Bhandari, Minister of Defense amidst a ceremony held on 4th June 2009 at The Everest Hotel, Baneshwor. There were about 150 participants in the book launching workshop. These included the Constituent Assembly Members, political leaders, women activists, donor representatives, media persons, experts and others. During the book launching in Kathmandu, the following persons provided its review: Honorable Ms. Sapna Pradhan Malla (Member/ Constituent Assembly-Parliament), Ms Urmila Aryal (Politbureau Member CPN UML). Mr. Raj Babu Shrestha (Executive Director- Poverty Alleviation Fund) and Ms. Anita Devkota (Central Member- Nepal Women's Association (Nepali Congress Party).
Book launching workshops were also held in all five regional locations of the country namely Lahan (Eastern) on 11th June 2009, Birgunj (Central) on 26th June 2009, Kapilvastu (Western) on 19th June 2009, Surkhet (Mid-Western) on 21st June 2009 and Kanchanpur (Far-Western) on 15th June 2009. Women's Democratic Network members, local political leaders, government officials, media peoples, representatives of non-governmental organizations, etc. participated in the regional level workshops.

Bio-Fuel Programme Successfully Completed

RSN successfully completed the pilot projects by using bio-fuel (Jatropha Fuel) in various machinery during July-August 2009. The results of experiments show that the use of bio-fuel is more dependable, resource saving and efficient in our context. Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) provided financial assistance to implement this project.
The major objectives of the pilot project were generation of examples and successful implementation models of biofuels from Jatropha in pump, different vehicles and agro-processing mills; as a result of which, reducing import on the fossil fuels and developing the socio-economic condition of the country and its people. The specific objectives were:
1. Success in operation of various mobile & stationary engines by using bio-fuel.
2. Guideline on suitable blending proportion of bio-fuel with fossil fuel which will be helpful in future operation of various systems with their appropriate blending proportion.
3. Success stories, examples, readymade procedures and protocols of activities and experiments conducted by using   bio-fuel.
4. Feedback to improve the quality of the bio-fuel.Pilot Projects.
The pilot projects using bio-fuel have been conducted during July-August 2009. The project was mainly focused to demonstrate the use of biofuels from Jatropa in various engines and devices. The conduction of pilot projects was as follows:
1. Power generation using Diesel generator set (Center for Energy Studies, Institute of Engineering (2066-04-11 To 2066-04-16)
2. Vehicles (Tractor) NARC Agricultural Research Station(Agri-Implements) Ranighat Birgunj-14 (2066-04-30 To 2066-04-31)
3. Water Pump NARC Agricultural Research Station(Agri-Implements) Ranighat Birgunj-14 (2066-04-32 To 2066-05-03)
4. Agro-Processing Mill Jagarnathpur VDC Parsa 2066-05-04 To 2066-05-07 Jagarnathpur VDC Parsa
The experiments were conducted for B0, B20, B40, B50, B60, B80, and B100. Experiments have been successfully conducted and no mechanical system failure or engine damaged has been observed. These experiments showed that the efficiency of the engine is higher in the use of bio-fuel.
The pilot project was observed by professionals, engineers, academicians, students and journalists with great enthusiasm. The event and result was covered by national news papers and leading TV channels.

Poverty Alleviation Programme: Extension upto 2010

RSN and Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) signed agreement to implement PAF programme for its fourth year (2009-2010) on 9th August 2009. The project will be implemented in seven remote VDCs namely Syalibang, Khawang, Ligha, Damri, Phopli, Lung and Bangeshal of Pyuthan district. During fourth year, a total of 723 additional households will be benefitted.
The agreed social mobilization cost is of NRs. 3.2 million. Till the fourth year, a total of 4,807 with population of 29,323 are benefitting from the project. The programme cost crosses 100 million. The programme costs include the costs of income generation programme, capacity building of community organizations and development of socio-economic infrastructures (road, drinking water, micro-irrigation, school building, market centers, micro-hydro, etc.). A total of 163 community organizations are directly involved to implement the project.

Projects Completed

RSN completed the construction of five drinking water supply and sanitation projects in Pyuthan district. Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Fund Development Board (RWSSFDB) provided financial suport to implement these projects.

Similarly, under PAF Programme, RSN completed construction of Bahane-Damri motorable road. A total of NRs. 5.1 million was invested for the road construction. The contribution from the local community was 34 percent.

RSN Selected for PAF Project for Parsa District

The Board Meeting held in Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) decided to select RSN as Partner Organization (PO) to implement PAF programme in Parsa District. A total of 11 NGOs along with RSN are selected by the Board. The Prime Minister is the President of the PAF Board. The programme will be implemented in various VDCs of the Parsa district since November 2009.

General Assembly of Renaissance Society Nepal

RSN's Annual General Assembly (AGM) held on 9 October2010. The AGM approved the Annual Report, Annual Program, Audit report of FY 2066/67, provided guideline to the executive committee by approving Future Policy of RSN. It formed a new executive committee of 11 member lead by Madan Bahadur Thapa. There are total of 43 general members in RSN. Out of the 80 percent members were present in the AGM. Water Supply Programme in Rolpa & Rukum

Construction of Water Supply Schemes Started in Rolpa (3 projects) and Rukum (2 projects) from 15 April 2011. These projects serve 473 household with population of 2,859. The project will provide services of safe drinking water, household toilet constriction, environment sanitation, income generation opportunity for women, health and hygiene behavior change, construction of school toilet and school sanitation education, etc. It will also strengthen the institutional capacity of water users committee and train village health promoter, village maintenance workers and volunteers. The schemes under constructions are: Nuwagaun, Sarange and Mahendri in Rolpa, and pokhara maineri and Ghapagar in Rukum district. The constriction of additional two schemes will be started in May 2011. The Development Phase of this project was in July 2010. The Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Fund Development Board (RWSSFDB) provided the financial support to implement this project. The total budget for five projects is NRs. 10,390,200. The community contribution (both cash and kind) from the users' is estimated to be about NRS. 2,692,032.00.

Poverty Alleviation Program Extended

Separate agreement for Parsa and Pyuthan district to implement PAF programme for the period of Manshir 2067 to Ashadh end 2068 has been carried out in 17 December 2010. The main objective of the project is to alleviate the poverty of the targeted communities. The project is being implemented since 2005 in Pyuthan district (seven VDCs) and January 2010 in Parsa district (3 VDCs and Birganj Sub-Metropolitan City. A total of 190 Community Organizations (COs) covering 5,431 households with population of 33,593 will benefits through income generation, micro-enterprise promotion, infrastructure building and capacity building activities. Till this period, the communities have completed infrastructure development schemes (50 nos), livelihood promotion activities (170 nos) and capacity development of above 4,500 persons. The present support will focus in institutionalization of COs, their federations and cooperative societies. The total budget provided to RSN to carry out social mobilization and technical assistance is NRs. 1,469,423 (Parsa 623,392 & Pyuthan 846,031). The cost for programme goes directly to bank account of COs.

WASH Programme in Ligha, Pyuthan

An agreement between RSN and DDC Pyuthan has been held on 6 April 2011. The project will be implemented from April 2011 to August 2012 (19 months). The project aims to declare Ligha as Open Defecation Free (ODF) by providing 100 percent access to safe drinking water and sanitation facility. It will contribute in Nepal's Millennium Development Goal of 80% sanitation coverage by 2015 and universal access to water and sanitation by 2017. The ODF declaration is targeted to be within September 2011. RSN has establish Project Site Office in L igha VDC and started providing training, institutional development of stakeholders, construction of water supply and sanitation facilities. It has also focused in health, hygiene and sanitation behavior change through education, triggering and ignition tools. A total of 545 households will be benefitted from this project. The total budget agreed for project administration is NRs 1,736,300.
