The Renaissance Society, as called Punarjagaran Samaj in Nepali, is our movement to integrate the disadvantaged people into the democratic mainstream through their empowerment with skills, wealth, income, institutions, justice, and the rejuvenation of heritage. Nepal’s manifold heritages like the nice people, Lord Buddha, Himalayas and abounding resources are far from enriching the majority of people. Ironically, most of the people live with less than one US$ daily and the status of women, children and ethnic people is more severe.

RSN Selected for PAF Project for Parsa District

The Board Meeting held in Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) decided to select RSN as Partner Organization (PO) to implement PAF programme in Parsa District. A total of 11 NGOs along with RSN are selected by the Board. The Prime Minister is the President of the PAF Board. The programme will be implemented in various VDCs of the Parsa district since November 2009.

Projects Completed

RSN completed the construction of five drinking water supply and sanitation projects in Pyuthan district. Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Fund Development Board (RWSSFDB) provided financial suport to implement these projects.

Similarly, under PAF Programme, RSN completed construction of Bahane-Damri motorable road. A total of NRs. 5.1 million was invested for the road construction. The contribution from the local community was 34 percent.

Poverty Alleviation Programme: Extension upto 2010

RSN and Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) signed agreement to implement PAF programme for its fourth year (2009-2010) on 9th August 2009. The project will be implemented in seven remote VDCs namely Syalibang, Khawang, Ligha, Damri, Phopli, Lung and Bangeshal of Pyuthan district. During fourth year, a total of 723 additional households will be benefitted.
The agreed social mobilization cost is of NRs. 3.2 million. Till the fourth year, a total of 4,807 with population of 29,323 are benefitting from the project. The programme cost crosses 100 million. The programme costs include the costs of income generation programme, capacity building of community organizations and development of socio-economic infrastructures (road, drinking water, micro-irrigation, school building, market centers, micro-hydro, etc.). A total of 163 community organizations are directly involved to implement the project.
